Would you like speak Finnish more confidently?

Pronunciation and spoken language are the key to speaking fluent Finnish in everyday life, and this course has both!

Finnish courses are traditionally heavy in grammar, and pronunciation, spoken language, listening and speaking can often get neglected. We are here to change that with Tuutsä mukaan, a course that will really help you with what often matters most – understanding what you hear and making yourself understood.

”It has been so so helpful. I actually hesitated a long time before signing up - it felt somehow self-indulgent to worry about my pronunciation when I felt should be studying grammar.

The course has been a complete revelation. Pronunciation and grammar are interrelated and there was no way I could improve without paying attention to length distinctions. I so wish I had found this course right from the beginning.”

What our students are saying

"Mari is an exceptional Finnish teacher, who has a unique set of skills that go beyond imparting grammar and vocabulary. She is deeply passionate about Finnish language and that is contagious.

Mari is patient and empathetic, providing always constructive feedback. She adapts her teaching methods to meet the individual needs of the students, and conveys complex language concepts in a simple and understandable manner. She always encourages questions and provides clear explanations."

-Araceli del Río Sastre, Mari's long time student

"Päivi’s deep knowledge of phonetics allows her to help develop Finnish speaking skills in a really unique and educated way. Even after just a few lessons with her, I was able to pick up on the rhythm of Finnish much better than before.

Working with her will exponentially increase your Finnish pronunciation, understanding, and conversational confidence.

- Sydney A.,
Päivi's student at Ääntämisklinikka

"Mari's approach to teaching is both fun and empowering.

The content of her lessons is interesting and relevant, and the personalized feedback extremely valuable.

As a Finnish learner, I cannot praise Mari enough!"

-Daniela Untersteiner,
a student in several of Mari's courses

"Päivi on erittäin lahjakas opettaja, joka pystyy selittämään vaikeitakin kieli-asioita ja joka osaa varmaan kaikkea Suomen ääntämisestä. Sen lisäksi Päivi on mukava ja positiivinen ihminen."

"Päivi is a very talented teacher who is able to explain even difficult linguistic concepts and who may know everything about Finnish pronuciation. In addition to that, Päivi is a nice, positive person."

Liza A., Päivi's student at Ääntämisklinikka

This course is for you if

  • You'd like to speak Finnish with more confidence in everyday conversations
  • You want to improve your pronunciation
  • You want to understand everyday conversations with more ease
  • You're ready to put in the work needed to level up your language skills

Why should I focus on pronunciation? Shouldn’t I focus on grammar and vocabulary instead?

In our experience, pronunciation and hearing different sounds correctly holds a lot of learners back, even up to learners at very advanced levels. The sound system of a language is the most important foundational building block for learning to speak and to understand what you are hearing, especially when it comes to a language like Finnish, where long and short sounds often entirely change the meaning of words.

This course isn’t about accent reduction: it’s about taking you to the next level in your language journey. Our goal is to help you to finally communicate clearly, confidently and fluently at a level that you may not have imagined possible.

Also, while this course doesn’t focus especially on grammar, we will be dealing with authentic everyday conversations where you will see the grammar in action. Though we won’t be filling in any blanks with partitive forms, there’s still a lot of grammar and vocabulary ahead!
