I'm organizing a course on Finnish pronunciation and spoken Finnish together with pronunciation expert Päivi Virkkunen from Ääntämisklinikka. 

We will cover all of the key aspects of Finnish pronunctiation and practice them with real world, spoken Finnish dialogues from our e-book, Tuutsä mukaan.

Our classes will be taught in English and Finnish. The course is suitable for anyone who wishes to improve their Finnish pronuciation, from basic to advanced levels. You should have at least some basic knowledge of Finnish (A1) before you join.

The e-book Tuutsä mukaan is included in the course price.

We will have 10 live meetings on Zoom on Wednesdays, 19:00-20:00 Finnish time.

No lesson on 30/4/2025 (vappuaatto).

Who are the teachers?

Päivi Virkkunen is a phonetician and pronunciation teacher. Her master's degree is from the University of Helsinki.

Päivi is the founder of Ääntämisklinikka, the first language school specialized in Finnish pronunciation.

Päivi is the co-author of Tuutsä mukaan, and has authored several research articles on learning and teaching pronunciation.

Mari Nikonen is a Helsinki based teacher who has been teaching Finnish to adult learners since 2008.

She completed her master's degree on Finnish as a second language in 2013 at the University of Helsinki.

Mari is the co-author of three textbooks: Fonetiikkaa suomen kielen oppijoille, Tuutsä mukaan and YKIä kohti.

How do I know if I'm at the right level?

This course is suitable for a wide range of levels from A1 (basics) to C1 (proficient).

A1 means knowing some basics: being able to introduce yourself, having some basic vocabulary and being able to have very simple interactions in Finnish: saying hello, buying a coffee and so forth.  

What if I miss the Zoom meetings?

We recommend that you only sign up if the Zoom meetings work for your schedule.

Unfortunately, the Zoom meetings will not be recorded. This is because we want to create an environment where it is safe to practice without being afraid of making mistakes - imagine learning a new language while being recorded!  

However, you can still follow the course material week by week, get access to Tuutsä mukaan and all other course materials and learn a lot during the course.  

If you need to be absent sometimes, no worries, we will help you catch up if needed!
